   EXPLORE the south coast from Riverton

Riverton is the ideal base from which to explore the south west section of the Southern Scenic Route.
Accommodation is available in all price ranges.
The Beaches of Riverton Rocks area are safe for swimming, kayaking and surfing.
Cafes in the Riverton Rocks area as well as in the township.
The Cultural Heritage Museum (Te Hikoi) is worth a look as are the Art Galleries/studios and Craft shops.
Bush walks
in the area lead to spectacular viewing points.
Day fishing trips can be arranged to suit your itinerary.
Heritage Trails include historic cottages, goldmining sites, museums and a flax mill.

Then explore the south west section of the Southern Scenic Route

Colac Bay - 10 minutes drive from Riverton to this beautiful swimming and surfing beach,
with craft studio and cafe, restaurant, and taverns.

Historic Orepuki - an old goldmining town with a wild beautiful beach where gemstones can be found.

Cosy Nook/ Mullet Bay - Rocky cove with picturesque baches/cribs.

Monkey Island Beach - Sandy beach with an islet accessible at low tide.

Tuatapere - 40 minutes scenic drive from Riverton, has cafes, museum, taverns, accommodation and Art & Craft studios.

Clifden bridge & Limestone caves - just north of tuatapere.

Lakes Hauroko & Monowai - Beautiful lakes surrounded by Beech Forest. Enjoy walks, boating and swimming.

Jet Boat rides down the Wairaurahiri River.

Helicopter Trips - see the land/sea/lake-scapes and land in remote locations.

Port Craig - Now a tramping destination, on the historic site of a sawmill town until the 1940's.
tramp or helicopter to comfortable huts. The beginning of the spectacular Hump track.

Bluecliffs beach - minutes from Tuatapere, miles of sandy beach backed by forest.

Hump track - tramping at its finest, starting past Bluecliffs.
